Visiting the "Glätterin"
One important helper of our women and girls is the "Glätterin".
What she has to do, we know now.

When I visited it was Schierzes grandmother in Sabrodt already 76 years old. They lived in a house at the very end of the village. Some people would be afraid, very lonely to live, but Schierzes grandmother was the pines, which surrounded the house, good friends, and if the sun is really nice the bank in front of the house warmed, then they wiegten the trees well into sweet slumber. Frequent rest they could not treat because the garden in the Jewels of many, many colorful flowers stood, had worked diligently. And still more were waiting on their hands work the aprons of the Sorbian women from around the vicinity of Nardt to Spreewitz and Neustadt, the woman is a Schierz Glätterin.

You want to know what that is. She has told me and showed me what to do. Look at the beautiful blue print aprons Hoyerswerdaer the costume must occasionally even washed. That probably makes every woman, every girl themselves, but must also after each apron again beautifully smooth and shiny as new, and that concerned the Glätterin. Thus, the aprons after Sabrodt Schierz brought to the woman. What did they have? They told me this: "First I put the apron into the water and strengthen them. If they are dried, I smooth them. You see, because I have a hemisphere made of glass, about 8 cm in diameter. The fits well into the hand. Then I take a cake board - while she took a large, square board and put it on the floor. The apron will be laid, and now I need to take the ball for so long on the apron out rowing backwards and forwards until they get proper gloss. This is a difficult work and requires a lot of strength, but I like to do it, because I get to do something, and our women and girls would be quite pretty Sorbian costume.

Sun told me the aged woman, and they also told me that they work well for more than 25 years, said. I wish her that they are still quite long in good health for our women and girls may smooth!
